2005 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds"

Bid on this bottle of 2005 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds" (94-95RP, 92-95BH, 93VN). Wine Advocate writes: "Black raspberry, flowers and crushed stone mineral notes lead to ripe, spiced black fruits with terrific richness, palpable density and enormous energy. Wet stone, chalk and charred meat on a persistently somber finish — a superbly concentrated and structured wine needing at least 10-12 years in the cellar." (06/2007)

Burghound

An exceptionally elegant and pure nose mixes both upper and lower register red Pinot fruit aromas where the almost pungent minerality plays on the edges and as is the case with all great examples of Taillepieds, it is the base on which the flavors and finish are built. This is quite firm and while not as austere as the Champans, the finish is linear and penetrating and will require ample time to really be at its best. *Don't miss, Outstanding!* (04/2007)

Wine Advocate

Aromas of black raspberry, flowers and pungent, charred, dusty, ore-like and crushed stone mineral notes set a serious tone for what follows. Ripe, spiced black fruits and a soy-like savor team up for a palate of terrific richness, palpable density, abundant fine tannins, but also an enormous sense of energy and mouth-watering enticement. Wet stone, chalk, wood smoke, and charred meat make for a somber, low-toned side to this wine’s impressively persistent finish, but neither is there a lack of (black) fruit or savory salinity. This superbly concentrated and structured wine needs at least 10-12 years in the cellar, I suspect. (DS) (06/2007)

Vinous

Musky, highly aromatic nose hints at red berries, minerals, flowers and spices. Densely packed but juicy, tight and imploded today, with its fruit flavors currently dominated by structure. This, too, boasts terrific sappy energy and elegance, not to mention length, but may well require a decade of patience. Very impressive. (ST) 93+ (03/2008)
