Bid on this 6-half-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs (375ml) (93BH, 93VN, 93WS, 92RP, 92ST). Vinous: The actual commercial release of the 2007 Clos des Ducs: Good medium red. An initial element of reduction dissipated to reveal lovely red fruit and floral perfume. Wonderfully silky and suave on the palate, with ripe raspberry, cherry, strawberry and rose petal flavors framed by ripe acidity (this wine's pH was the highest of all the vintages in the tasting and yet it shows lovely balance). Distinctly elegant, tender, classic Volnay premier cru with great appeal--and better than the two lots made from the top of the clos. Finishes juicy and gripping, with very refined tannins and subtle rising length. An excellent example of its vintage. (ST) (10/2019)

91 points David Schildknecht in Wine Advocate: "The d’Angerville’s 2007 Volnay Clos Des Ducs is far more concentrated and youthful in aspect than its Champans counterpart, with blackberry, cherry pit, black tea, crushed stone, and iodine combining with relative firmness of texture, but with compensatory richness of beef marrow adding to its darkly-hued, bitter-edged, somber complexity." “This too is exceptionally fresh and pretty with attractively ripe, vivid and elegant red cherry, raspberry and wet stone nuances that are very much in keeping with the lacy, pure and laser-like medium-weight flavors that display fine precision. As it typically is with a classic Ducster, the dominant flavor influence is the intense sense of minerality that culminates in a harmonious, understated yet driving finish that does not seem to stop for several minutes. This is a not a big Ducster but for purity of delivery, it's hard to beat and the balance is impeccable. Unlike the '08, this could actually be enjoyed now as there is a lovely suppleness to the mid-palate.” (04/2012)

“A beauty, from its haunting aromas of wild cherry, berry, floral and spice to the silky texture and lingering aftertaste. There's a sinewy feel on the finish, ending on sweet fruit and spice notes. *Collectible* (BS)” (12/2010)

“The 2007 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs, which was tasted from a magnum directly from their cellars, has a beautiful bouquet with red plum, blueberry and an intriguing subtle vein of wild mint. This is a complex bouquet with hint of black tea and bay leaf surfacing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, very harmonious and focused, demonstrating more grace and precision than the 2007 Volnay Champan tasted alongside. Then on the finish there is a cheeky touch of sour cherry that seems to cleanse the palate and urges you to take another sip. (NM)” (04/2016)

“Medium red. Darker aromas of black cherry and spices. Dense and spicy on the palate; fuller and sweeter than the Taillepieds but also quite fresh and built to age. This is still a bit stunted from the mise but the substantial dusty tannins display lovely sweetness. Aeration brought impressive early complexity. (ST)” (03/2010)

“Cells were much more disciplined and regular. Happier? François Duvivier sees vines having better self-protection with biodynamic viticulture – ‘soils are as powerful as weather’. No special demands in spring but a very early harvest, 7 September. The same transparent ruby as the lutte raisonnée version. (Actually, the biodynamic wine was deeper coloured but he had to add SO2 to bottle this sample so the colours are slightly misleadingly similar.) Wilder, gamier, more intense nose than the lutte raisonnée sample of the same wine. Very wild and wide-ranging. A host of different aromas and textures. But definitely a walk on the wild, almost ‘natural’, side and with some mintiness. 18/20 points (JR)” (04/2019)
