Another high point of the Epoch lineup is the 2022 Syrah York Mountain, which offers a dark, serious, gamey nose chock-full of cracked black pepper, charcoal embers and beautiful umami-driven flourishes of kelp that I find quite rare in Paso Robles Syrah. The palate is massive in its richness and concentration while remaining savory and classy, perfectly propped up by balancing acidity and fine tannins. The finish is full-throttle and relentlessly intense, circling back to the spice-driven lusciousness of the nose. This is a fantastic expression of this unique subregion and one of my favorite wines of the vintage. (ML)
