Bid on this 5-half-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur Richebourg Grand Cru (375ml) (94BH, 94VN). Vinous: Ruby-red. Ripe, smoky, expressive aromas of musky raspberry, minerals, spices, mocha and game. Large-scaled, full, silky and seamless; boasts a chocolatey ripeness but sound acidity gives it more energy than the other two grand crus. Finishes very long and very ripe, with lush tannins that dust the entire palate. Balanced for a long life in bottle. (ST) (03/2008) Vinous: "Ruby-red. Some notes of interest on the Richebourg Grand Cru Vineyard Site: "Richebourg is a Grand Cru vineyard site and corresponding appellation in Burgundy's Cote de Nuits district. One of six Grand Cru sites in the hallowed village of Vosne-Romanee, the vineyard lies immediately adjacent to the La Romanee and Romanee-Conti Grand Cru sites, on the mid-slopes of the Cote d'Or escarpment. The name Richebourg literally means 'rich town', but how the vineyard acquired the name is not clear. The 20-acre (8-ha) site is the second-largest Grand Cru in Vosne-Romanee, just slightly smaller than Romanee-Saint-Vivant. It is of average size when compared with all Burgundy Grand Crus, but those in Vosne-Romanee are known for the fine-grained definition of their boundaries and terroir. Richebourg has a surprisingly limited number of owners, given the tendency of Burgundian vineyards to sub-divide over generations. Currently, the main owners are the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and various members of the extended Gros family. Richebourg Grand Cru wines are considered to be amongst the most opulent Grand Cru wines from Vosne-Romanee and neighboring Flagey-Echezeaux (the vineyards belonging to the two villages are contiguous and often grouped together), but for some reason they do not attract quite as much attention as their Romanee counterparts."

Burghound
“A potent but very reserved, indeed almost backward mix of wood spice, Vosne spice, earth, smoke, animale and gorgeous black berry fruit aromas blend into rich, full and wonderfully deep flavors that are supple and not as concentrated as those of the GE but there is no lack of mid-palate fat to buffer the somewhat austere and firmly structured finish. I like the balance here and there is really good depth of material that is presently robust but hugely long...” (01/2008)
