2007 FX Pichler Dürnsteiner Kellerberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd
95
Vinous
Review Date: 11/2008Medium green-yellow. Still somewhat closed on the nose but opens with coaxing to reveal elegant spicy tobacco and ripe juicy apple and apricot. The juicy apricot element carries through on the palate, where it's joined by strong minerality. Very elegantly styled wine, offering a delicate play of acidity and a discreet note of honey interwoven with a wet stone character. An aristocratic wine with great aging potential. (PM)

Notes
From one of the Wachau's benchmark estates, this comes from Kellerberg, the steep terraced vineyard rising above Dürnstein and regarded as one of the region's great sites. The Smaragd designation marks the Wachau's top ripeness category for dry wines, and F.X. Pichler's Kellerberg Grüner Veltliner is one of the estate's most collected bottlings.
