2020 Turley Alexander Valley Zinfandel Horizontal

“The 2020 Zinfandel Steacey Ranch is packed with super-ripe blue/purplish fruit, lavender, cinnamon and dried flowers. It is one of the more overt, juicy wines in this range. Time in the glass brings out intense floral notes and a whole range of red berry Zinfandel fruit. This is nicely done. (AG)” (01/2022)

“The 2020 Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard is absolutely gorgeous. Bright, intensely aromatic and light on its feet, the 2020 is immediately appealing, right out of the gate. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, red flowers and cedar lend aromatic intensity. This is an especially perfumed, gracious Zinfandel, even in 2020. (AG)” (01/2022)

“Now in its second iteration, the Kirschenmann is particularly close to the team’s hearts as their winemaker, Tegan Passalacqua, owns and farms this vineyard. The ungrafted vines were planted in 1915 in the silica-rich sandy soils of the east side of the Mokelumne River AVA. Thanks to the river’s cool waters and delta breezes, these head-trained, dry-farmed vines are constantly protected from the heat. Very classy, refined Zinfandel. Has sweetness of fruit but balanced with attractive spice, dark berry, enough acidity and fine tannins. Good stuff. (AWH)” (03/2022)

“The 2020 Zinfandel Deaver Ranch is a new wine in this range made from a site that used to go into the Old Vine Zinfandel. It offers an attractive mix of aromatics and mid-weight structure. Dark red/purplish fruit, sage, lavender, mint, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco are nicely layered in this decidedly burly, rustic Zinfandel. (AG)” (01/2022)

“The 2020 Zinfandel Whitney Tennessee is a pretty powerful wine in this vintage. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of bright red/purplish fruit. Usually a more delicate wine, the Whitney Tennessee is quite intense in 2020. I would give it a few years to unwind. Rose petal, mint, white pepper and chalk add an attractive upper register to this taut Zinfandel-based field blend. (AG) 91+” (01/2022)

“The 2020 Zinfandel 101 Vineyard is pretty, aromatic and relatively understated. The bouquet especially is quite appealing. In this tasting, the 2020 comes across as a bit shut down, but it offers good balance for the year. Cedar, pipe tobacco, menthol, licorice. hard candy, and sweet red cherry all grace this mid-weight Zinfandel. The tannins are a bit nervy, as it's the case with most of these wines. (AG)” (01/2022)
