Bid on this 6-half-bottle lot of 2021 Rhys Horseshoe Vineyard Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (375ml) (96JD, 96RP, 95VN, 94WE, 92WS). Wine Advocate: Among the impressive array of Rhys estate vineyards, Horseshoe is a centerpiece. The 2021 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is reticent to unveil its gorgeous, ever-expanding aromas, beginning with pomegranates, cherry blossoms, violets, tarragon and a signature note of cured meat. The palate is equal parts supple, sturdy and giving, exploding into a massive finish of concentrated red fruits, crushed stones, dried flowers and fine but tenacious tannins. This is perennially one of the most impressive Pinot Noirs in California, and it demands five years of cellaring and should improve for two decades beyond that. (ML) (04/2024)

“A dark red/magenta color, the 2021 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is savory and resinous with aromas of blackberries, menthol, and rosemary. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with plush, ripe tannins and a rounded mouthfeel . It’s long on the palate and has more richness throughout. (AF)” (06/2024)

“The 2021 Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard is promising, even if it's rather reticent in the early going. Its open-knit, floral bouquet is quite alluring, but on the palate, the 2021 feels like it is still coming together. Bright red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint, pomegranate and blood orange emerge with time in the glass. Elegant and refined, the 2021 offers terrific potential. It is a wine of notable textural depth and resonance. Bright floral and citrus notes extend the grippy finish, where the Syrah character is most evident. I am looking forward to tasting this with a bit of bottle age. (BN)” (10/2024)

“Baked strawberry, pastry crust and wild-plum aromas show on the nose of this bottling from a mountainside vineyard. Rounded red-fruit flavors are spiced up by hibiscus tea, cinnamon and tropical fruit flavors on the palate, which also exhibits a peppery spice. (MK)” (12/2023)

Wine Spectator
“Features a fairly dense core of steeped red currant and mulled kirsch notes infused with ample forest floor, sassafras and chaparral accents. Reveals red tea, menthol, a twinge of stems and a flash of iron on the finish. Rustic, structured and burly in character now, this will reward cellaring but is decidedly for fans of the style only.
