The official Friends of Laphroaig bottling is always one of the highlights on the Scotch calendar every year. This year it's a little late due to the giant mess that is world shipping — but it's finally here. The much-awaited PX sherry cask edition. The Cairdeas 2021 is triple matured. The initial maturation takes place in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels; the second quarter casks; and the third and final barrel this whisky sees is European oak hogsheads previously filled with unctuous PX sherry. The sweetness from the PX is beautifully balanced by the complex oak profile and of course, the full, rich flavors of Laphroaig with its classic peat, smoke, and salt profile. Bottled at cask strength, this release is a doozy and definitely not to be missed. Whether you're a "Friend of Laphroaig" or more of a casual acquaintance, this bottling is likely to be a new favorite.
