Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Produttori del Barbaresco "Ovello" Barbaresco Riserva (96DC, 95RP, 92W&S). Decanter: "Vacca finds a resemblance between 2008 and the illustrious 1978 vintage. The weather was a bit cool and rainy through spring until mid-July, and decidedly warm temperatures marked August, while September continued under favourable conditions of significant diurnal temperature differences. Now a decade old, the 2008 is just hitting its stride. Intensely perfumed scents of forest floor and dried wild flowers waft from the glass. The palate is mineral-driven with powdery tannins, giving plenty of texture and grip. This wine has the concentration to keep going, offering fantastic energy in a seamlessly knit package. Produttori del Barbaresco is a type of cooperative arrangement between 56 growers in Barbaresco. Its roots go back to 1958 when small growers of the region working in cooperation with the priest of Barbaresco village came together to ensure the quality and uniqueness of their production. Each family still maintains their small vineyard holdings, and most years these are blended into either bottlings of Barbaresco or Nebbiolo, and in great years there can be one or more of 9 single vineyard bottlings produced. These wines will always have their vineyards and growers noted and are quite special.

“The Produttori’s 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a reference point wine for the village, even if, in truth, Ovello is a fairly diverse zone with many exposures. Firm, steely tannins support a core of expressive fruit in this vibrant, energetic Barbaresco. The 2008 is going to require considerable patience, but it is striking, even today. Sweet floral notes reappear on the vivid, utterly breathtaking finish, adding lift, precision and vibrancy. This is a stunning wine from the Produttori.
