“While this cuvée is one of the least expensive in the lineup, it’s often one of my favorites. The 2018 Ontogeny is no exception and should be snatched up by readers. A classic 2018 nose of ripe, pure blue fruits, cassis, violets, and smoked earth gives way to a full-bodied, dense, concentrated Cabernet with beautiful tannins and length.” (01/2021)

“The 2018 'Ontogeny' is another excellent release from Russell Bevan, which as always, is composed from a blend of the vineyard designate sites. Displaying a pitch dark, inky color, this offers expressive aromatics of ripe boysenberries and black cherries which are woven together with violets, tilled soil, dark florals, graphite shavings and hints of fresh sage that explode from the glass. On the palate this possesses a rich full body that is well-structured and layered. It goes on to display remarkable depth and concentration as it comes to an end with a long supple finish that lingers on.
