Château du Moulin-à-Vent traces its origins to 1732, when the estate—then known as Château des Thorins—anchored the historic heart of the Moulin-à-Vent cru. Its long lineage includes the visionary Philiberte Pommier, whose 19th-century stewardship culminated in a gold medal at the 1862 Universal Exhibition, and a major transition in 1911 when Julien Damoy acquired the property and expanded its reputation. The modern era began in 2009 with the Parinet family, who restored the domaine after a difficult period for Beaujolais. Today the estate farms 30 hectares across top sites such as Champ de Cour, La Rochelle, Les Vérillats, Les Thorins, and Clos de Londres, emphasizing organic conversion, massale selection, and parcel-specific vinification. Production centers on Gamay grown on granite-based soils shaped by the region’s defining winds, with élevage in the château’s historic cellars.

Simply, a beautiful Moulin-à-Vent. Fragrant aromas of blackberry, red raspberry, black tea, field-grass fronds, black cherry and crushed violet blossom perfume the nose. On the palate, supple tannins rest in the background and elevate the fruit, imparting delicate, complex flavors that will give you pause and elicit moments of appreciation. *Editors' Choice* (RS) (10/2024)

The 2021 Moulin-à-Vent Champ de Cour is showing nicely, revealing succulent but fresh flavors of bramble fruits, plums, crushed petals, beetroot and baking spices. With an inviting attack, the medium to full-bodied wine unfolds a layered mid-palate escorted by smooth structuring tannins and bright acidity. The wine flows leisurely in the mouth, ending on a high with a mouth-watering, crisp finish. This is well-balanced and suave, a top-tier Champ de Cour. (KW) (05/2024)

Wine Spectator

A lean, graphite-driven cuvée, showing flavors of baked cherry, blue fruit and dusty violets. Shows good energy throughout, with an open feeling to its polished, gentle tannins and toasted apple wood note. Earth, herb and citrus zest elements play out on the finish. (KB) (10/2024)

The 2021 Moulin-à-Vent Les Vérillats wafts pleasantly from the glass with aromas of tangy raspberries, red and black cherries, purple blossoms and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine displays a nicely concentrated fruit profile interspersed with flecks of white peppercorns, oak leaves and aniseed. It progresses leisurely along an upward trajectory, guided by bright acids and a tight-knit structure of chalky tannins that persist after the fruit fades away for a composed finish. Deep crimson. Something a little metallic on the nose? Lots of fruit but set for long life. (JR) (01/2023)

Moulin-à-Vent stands on its own and is worthy of the Premier Cru status it is seeking. Beautiful, savory aromas greet you on the nose with shy raspberry resting in the wings whispering to Darjeeling tea, dried hay and black plum. The midpalate is a lesson in complexity, even-handedness and restraint. Chateau du Moulin-à-Vent proprietor Éduoard Parinet says, “I want to bring Moulin-à-Vent back to the Grand Cru reputation it deserves,” and he is doing so indeed with gorgeous wines like this one that you don't want to stop sipping. *Editors' Choice* (RS) (10/2024)

Power builds in this intriguing red, with raspberry coulis and red currant flavors flanked by cool mineral tones, all growing in intensity -- though staying elegant. Simmers with notes of smoke, grilled herbs and sandalwood, while white pepper and pretty floral hints line the close. (KB) (10/2024)

Vinous

The 2021 Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle has a "cooler" bouquet, as you would expect, dark berry fruit, black pepper and light seaweed scents coming through. The palate is medium-bodied and certainly lighter than the previous two vintages, with a little greenness, not as complex as other vintages, but it maintains balance and should drink early whilst waiting for the 2019 and 2020. This wine shows you the greatness that Moulin-à-Vent can reach. Black raspberry, dried field grass and forest floor open on the nose lifted by black plum and red cherry skin. On the palate, well-integrated red and black fruit shines to the end of the lingering finish. This cool-weather vintage will continue to improve in bottle. *Editors' Choice* (RS) (10/2024)

This is a beautifully aged Moulin-à-Vent that shines even in a cooler vintage. A smattering of ripe red fruit wafts from your glass along with black plum, dried cranberry and red raspberry. Firm tannins lead on the attack and dissolve into well-integrated, chalk-dusted red and black fruit. (RS) (10/2024)

Wine Advocate

From a blend of old vines predominantly hailing from the northern reaches of the appellation, the 2021 Moulin-à-Vent exudes aromas of heliotrope and rose petals, cherries, red plums, oak leaf and sweet spices. The medium to full-bodied wine offers an anchor of fine-knit, powdery tannins with lines of succulent acids that emphasize the tanginess of the concentrated cherry fruit flavors and highlight the complementary layers of dried herbs and cracked peppercorns underneath, culminating in a wispy, salivating finish marked with lasting flavor and a slight patina of cedar spice. Medium ruby with a hint of purple. Like the Couvent des Thorins, this has a leafy, vegetal aroma but it’s better integrated. Fresh acidity and loads of spice on the palate with floral lift and very firm grippy tannin. (SCJ) (11/2024)
