2010 Continuum Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Continuum Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 97RP, 96TWI, 96VN, 93WS) in original wood. Wine Advocate: "This has been an impressive, serious wine since the debut vintage, and Tim Mondavi's estate high on Pritchard Hill has fashioned a 2010 blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 11% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot. Gorgeously ripe, intricate and nuanced, with aromas of spring flowers and red and black fruits, a stunning texture, sweet tannin, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and undeniable elegance and finesse, this complex beauty cascades over the palate without a hard edge to be found. It is a tribute to Mondavi-s long resume of skillful winemaking. Black currants, blueberries and a touch of raspberries are all compelling and persistent. Drink this gorgeous Napa red now and over the next 15+ years. (RP)" (10/2013)

Continuum is the next generation of Mondavis (Tim and Marcia) doing what Mondavis do best: innovating and making excellent wine. Continuum is a Left Bank—style Bordeaux blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon from the winery's higher-elevation Pritchard Hill estate in Oakville. 93+ points Stephen Tanzer in Vinous: "Full red-ruby. Slightly high-toned, dark scents of blueberry and blackberry coulis, violet, licorice, bitter chocolate and menthol, accompanied by pungent oak tones. In the mouth, vibrant black fruit, mineral and menthol flavors are energized by a floral element. Offers a lovely impression of density without weight, thanks to its cool-vintage energy and definition. This concentrated, supple Bordeaux blend shows terrific subtle breadth, finishing with dusty tannins, a repeating menthol quality and building violet florality. Still quite young and backward." The Wine Independent

A blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 11% Petit Verdot, and 4% Merlot, the 2010 Continuum was produced with 92% of the fruit from Pritchard Hill, with small amounts from Mt. Veeder and Diamond Mountain. It is deep garnet in color and opens with gentle notes of dried herbs and flowers, before giving way to notions of redcurrant jelly, cherry pie, and raspberry coulis, with a waft of pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, the palate is lively and refreshing, with bags of crunchy red fruit and fine-grained tannins, finishing long and minerally. (LPB) (06/2023)

Vinous

With a few years in bottle, the 2010 Continuum is starting to show the first signs of complexity. Dark red and purple-hued, the 2010 is laced with violets, lavender, smoke, sage and mint. The late season heat spike give the fruit an extra level of juiciness, but the tannins are those of a cool year and the mountain site. Ideally, readers will be able to cellar the 2010 for another few years. (AG) (12/2014)

Wine Spectator

An enticing, graceful style, this achieves a deft balance and refined dark berry, cedar and black licorice notes that linger on the finish as the tannins gain traction and grip. (JL) (08/2013)

A notably very cool, late season. 92% estate-grown fruit. 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 11% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot. This vintage is detailed, nuanced and elegant with notes of bay leaf, and a light pink-grapefruit note that is refreshing. The palate is delicious, fresh, elegant, vibrant and beautiful. Altogether the wine is dynamic, energising and energetic. Through the mid palate and finish the wine picks up richer notes of dark chocolate while continuing to carry bay leaf, grapefruit and graphite accents. I like the freshness here and the impressive length. The wine is a bit more finessed with a very slightly smaller frame than the previous vintages. It is beautiful and a standout in the line-up as well. It feels more focused and elegant, with a bit finer muscle and frame compared with the previous vintages. There is less apparent new oak on the wine, and what is there is well integrated. Yum. I want to drink this. 17.5+/20 points (ECB) (07/2022)
