2015 Maillet, Pomerol (375ml)

Bid on this 6-half-bottle lot of 2015 Maillet, Pomerol (375ml) -(92CT) Quite tight at the moment and rather unyielding, clearly there is good concentration of those ripe, juicy, fat, sweet plums and chocolate, but it is going to require at least another 5-7 years to open and flesh out

Château Maillet is a small historic estate in the heart of Pomerol, where vineyards planted on gravel, clay, and iron-rich soils produce some of Bordeaux’s most supple and age-worthy Merlot-based wines. Long overshadowed by larger neighboring properties, the château has earned increasing recognition for its meticulous vineyard work and classically proportioned style that emphasizes finesse over excess. The combination of Pomerol’s naturally low-yielding terroir and the estate’s restrained approach gives the wine its hallmark texture, dark-fruited depth, and earthy mineral complexity.

James Suckling

A full and layered red with blackberry, blueberry and stone character. Some black tea, too. Full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. A big and muscular wine with classic Pomerol might. (02/2018)

Wine Advocate

The 2015 Maillet has ripe black cherries and raspberry coulis on the nose, nicely defined, not complex but nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, tarry black fruit and quite saline toward the finish. This is an interesting and characterful Maillet that should age with style. (NM) (02/2018)
