2005 Domaine Vincent Dauvissat Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos"

“The 2005 Chablis “les Clos” from Vincent Dauvissat is drinking splendidly at age twenty and is right at the peak of its plateau of maturity. The beautiful bouquet hops from the glass in a blaze of pear, apple, complex, flinty minerality, a touch of wet stones, almond, paraffin, lime peel and a deft touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, vibrant and complex, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent mineral undertow, still a superb girdle of acidity and a very long, impeccably balanced and vibrant finish. “This superb effort displays spicy white flower aromas that introduce sophisticated, pure and gorgeously intense flavors that explode on the strikingly long and chewy finish. The depth here is just terrific and the hallmark minerality is present in spades. And, as is always the case with this wine, the driving and penetrating finish just lasts and lasts and this is without question truly a stunner of a wine. “Bright medium yellow. Very ripe but reticent aromas of yellow peach, flowers and saffron, plus a woodsy/floral balsamic note. Very ripe, thick and powerful; not quite honeyed but its utterly silky peach and soft citrus fruit flavors convey a botrytis sweetness leavened by terrific acidity.
