Shannon Ridge was founded in 2001 by Clay Shannon in Lake County, where he began developing high-elevation vineyards on rugged volcanic slopes. The estate farms more than 1,000 acres in the High Valley AVA, using organic and regenerative methods that integrate a large sheep flock for weed and pest control. Vineyard blocks are small and carefully matched to soil, exposure, and elevation, producing concentrated mountain fruit shaped by steady winds and lean volcanic soils. Winemaking focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Petite Sirah, and other varieties grown across these steep ridges, with small-lot fermentations designed to preserve structure and site detail. The winery’s approach reflects a long-term commitment to sustainable farming and Lake County’s distinctive high-altitude character.
