2016 Georges Lignier Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2016 Georges Lignier Clos de la Roche Grand Cru - Spiced cherry, pastry, cocoa and slatey minerals with a massive hit of fruit on the mid palate. This is hemmed in by the firm structure now but nuances of forest fruits and truffle on the finish.

Vinous

Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of cherry, strawberry and raspberry accented by brown spices; the nose suggests a bigger wine than the Clos Saint-Denis. The large-scaled and deeper in the mouth but tightly wound, with its red fruit flavors complicated by soil-driven notes of menthol, stone, dried flowers, spices and underbrush. (ST) (01/2018)

Jancis Robinson

More protected from cold wind than Clos St-Denis. Less elegant and more powerful than his Clos St-Denis. More Morey, he says. Shaded ruby. Sweet and sumptuous on the nose. Very rich and lively with strong fruity notes – raspberries? Taffeta texture. No monster! ‘It’s still mine’, says winemaker Benoît Stehly. Good mineral finish. Very clean. 18/20 Points (11/2017)
