Wine Enthusiast
“A fine, slightly mineral wine, packed with tight tannins, but also with the rich fruits of the vintage. It is well balanced, the acidity sitting easily with the sweet, jammy fruit flavors. Dryness and some austerity mark this wine as a fine partner for food. (RV)” (06/2008)

From one of Montalcino's historic estates, this Brunello is made from Sangiovese grown around Sant'Angelo in Colle on the southern side of the appellation. Col d'Orcia has long favored a traditional élevage, with extended aging in large oak casks rather than a heavily barrique-driven style.

Wine Advocate
“The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino flows with a vibrant core of perfumed red cherries, spices, tobacco and earthiness. Medium in body, the wine reveals outstanding length and a polished, refined finish. The bouquet is not as clean or focused as is usually the case, and the wine will benefit greatly from being opened an hour or two in advance. (AG)” (04/2010)

Vinous
“Good deep, bright red. Complex, varietally expressive aromas of redcurrant, dried flowers, tobacco and sweet spices. Supple, broad and very light on its feet, with some spicy oak complicating the flavors of red cherry, tar and licorice. A silky-sweet midweight with harmonious acidity and subtle notes of flowers and graphite on the back. This excellent Brunello boasts sneaky concentration and impeccable balance. (IA)” (07/2010)

A small Right Bank estate with roots in Fronsac, Château Galand traces its modern identity to a former holding of the Moueix family, linking it to one of Bordeaux’s most influential lineages. Tucked between the Fronsac plateau and the Dordogne, the vineyard sits on clay and marl soils with vines often exceeding 60 years of age, conditions that promote depth and structure. Farming remains traditional with manual harvests and parcel-by-parcel selection, followed by careful fermentation and élevage designed to preserve fruit and build texture. The wine is typically built on a Merlot-dominant blend with supporting Cabernet Franc and Malbec, reflecting classic Right Bank composition. Within Bordeaux Supérieur, stricter yields, longer aging, and higher ripeness standards elevate quality beyond basic Bordeaux, yielding structured, cellar-worthy reds that remain accessible in price and style.
