*Smart Buy* Ripe and dense, but fresh, with silky-textured plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit carried by sweet spice and maduro tobacco notes. The fleshy finish shows nice drive. Should open up more with brief cellaring. *Smart Buys* (JM) (12/2010)

A Merlot-dominated Bordeaux blend from the Côtes de Bergerac in Southwestern France's Perigord region, grown in limestone soils. "The 2009 has sweet aromas of blueberries, ripe figs, toasted almond and nutmeg. Opulent, fruity and harmonious on the palate, it has a long finish with finely integrated tannins," according to the winery. A fantastic near-term ager that's wonderfully affordable, too, a must if you've got some truffles on hand since this delicious red comes from the famed home of the world's famous black truffles. 14.5% abv.

*Editors' Choice* Big, bold and black in color, this wine is full of new wood perfumes, and it has a smooth, polished texture. Rich, fruity and firmly balanced, it has dark tannins that create a powerful structure. It offers some aging potential. (03/2013)

This is a rich and rounded wine, and its tannins have already integrated into the soft, ripe black fruits. It has concentration and an attractive juiciness... (RV) (02/2013)

A frankly ripe, toasty style, with dark espresso, licorice and wood spice notes leading the way for plum cake and blackberry fruit. A fleshy, roasted edge hangs through the finish. A bit overt in style, but still rather solid. (JM) (03/2012)

Château La Grange Clinet lies in Saint Caprais de Bordeaux on gravel croupes overlooking the Garonne. The Haury family purchased forty eight hectares in 1983, converting former meadows and woods into vineyards under the guidance of Emile Peynaud. The estate now covers about seventy hectares around a protected wildlife reserve of ponds, forest, shrubs, and natural grassland. Farming follows a nature focused approach that excludes weedkillers, chemical fertilizers, and synthetic products. Soils mix gravel, clay, and sand, giving distinct parcels for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.
