93 points, Joanna Simon for Decanter: " A summer of average temperatures rather than the heat spikes experienced further inland. As in the previous year, the blend is 55% Cabernet, 40% Merlot and 5% Syrah. A complex perfume of sandalwood, incense, sweet spice and equally sweet fruit introduces a very concentrated, opulent, ripe palate, but one that doesn’t completely deliver on the promise of the nose. The fruit is ripe, verging on a slightly baked edge, and the weight and concentration of tannin as well as fruit, combined with lowish acidity, makes for a slightly four-square effect - although this may yet resolve itself." Decanter

The summer of 2007 was slightly uneven, but there were some very hot spells resulting in very ripe wines with relatively low acidity. I found this wine brooding and effortful when I last tasted it in 2012, but it has since mellowed. The nose is oaky and opulent, packed with black fruits. It's very rich and concentrated, but also lively and intense. Still youthful, it is broad and fleshy with a firm, tannic backbone and excellent length. (SB) (11/2017)

James Suckling

This is full throttle on the palate with blackberries, fresh herbs such as rosemary and currants. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish finish. (08/2011)

Wine Advocate

This is one of the surprise wines of this vertical tasting. The Fattoria le Pupille 2007 Saffredi is mature and complex with rich concentration and lots of balsamic intensity that draws in notes of licorice and medicinal herb. I had reservations regarding the hot 2007 vintage back in the day and doubted its capacity for long cellar aging. This wine is drinking very nicely right now and is probably near its peak. The season was hot, but we’ve seen similar temperatures more frequently in the years since. September rains in 2007 are what saved the vintage and brought fruit into balance. The Merlot used in the blend was harvested at the beginning of September, and that grape gives additional richness and density. (ML) (05/2024)

Wine Spectator

Soft and fruity, with plenty of cherry and raspberry character. Full-bodied, with polished tannins and a long, pretty aftertaste. (JS) (10/2010)
