2011 Domaine Frédéric Esmonin Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

“A pretty and expressive nose combines notes of herbal tea, maturing dark berry fruit and whispers of truffle and underbrush. The classic stony character of a classic Ruchottes is front and center on the textured and relatively precise middle weight flavors that conclude in a balanced and mildly austere finish that delivers outstanding length if only average depth. For my taste, this has arrived at its peak though it should have no trouble holding there for another decade.” (12/2023)

“Bright deep red. Ripe, smoky, nuanced aromas of musky raspberry, licorice, mint and game. Rich, silky and sweet, with nicely integrated acidity giving shape to the broad middle palate. No excess weight here but sweeter and richer than the Mazis. Deep, fine-grained tannins dust the tongue on the vibrant, long back end. (ST) 93+” (01/2013)
