Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2019 Ultramarine "Heintz Vineyard" Blanc de Noirs Sonoma Coast Sparkling Wine (lightly scuffed label) (95DC, 94VN). Decanter: "This wine is an excellent example of how Heintz isn’t just about Chardonnay - its Pinot Noir shines, especially with the bubbles. This rich, textured wine offers depth, generosity, and vibrant fruit expression. Expect notes of ripe berry compote, strawberry shortcake with a hint of mint, a wet stone minerality, and a touch of savoriness reminiscent of fresh sage. (ACQ)" (01/2025)

Antonio Galloni of Vinous writes: "The setting is about as unglamorous as it gets. Michael Cruse's small but functional warehouse-like winery is located in Petaluma, next to Highway 101, but not close to much else. Don't let the stripped down setting fool you. Cruse makes a wide range of incredibly distinctive wines here. The sparkling wines are especially of note. Cruse began his foray into sparkling wines with Ultramarine, a label that focuses on single-variety, single-vintage, single-site bottlings, an aesthetic that has become increasingly popular in Champagne. At Ultramarine, the wines are done with blocked malo, aged in oak with minimal SO2 and bottled with little or no dosage. Cruse recently introduced the Tradition under his own Cruse Wine Co. label. That wine is a Pinot Noir/Chardonnay blend from a variety of vineyard sources, done with a small amount of perpetual reserve. It undergoes full malo and is aged in both barrique and steel, with no SO2, and bottled with no dosage. It is also the steal in this range. Quite simply, I can't recommend these wines highly enough." “The 2019 Blanc de Noirs Charles Heintz Vineyard is rich and vinous in the glass. Varietal notes are beautifully amplified from start to finish. Plum, kirsch, white flowers, mint and exotic floral overtones all take shape nicely. The 2019 is texturally gorgeous. I find a touch of volatile acidity, but it is just a touch and well below what would be considered an issue. Here, that manifests in high-toned, lifted aromatics. Bottled with no dosage. Wine Advocate
“Disgorged in November 2023, the 2019 Blanc de Noirs Heintz Vineyard has slowly unfolding scents of apples, pie crust, spice and matchstick, and it becomes more expressive as it warms in the glass. The palate offers concentrated, savory flavors, though it received no dosage. It’s framed by creamy mousse and vibrant acidity and has a long, layered finish. (EB)” (08/2025)
