Domaine de la Romanée-Conti stands at the pinnacle of Burgundy, farming some of the Côte de Nuits’ most revered grand cru vineyards through an uncompromising philosophy centered on low yields, biodynamic viticulture, and profound respect for terroir. La Tâche, the domaine’s famed monopole grand cru in Vosne-Romanée, is planted on an ideal mid-slope of limestone and clay soils that consistently produce Pinot Noir of extraordinary depth, perfume, and longevity. Even by the standards of grand cru Burgundy, La Tâche is celebrated for its singular combination of power and finesse, with the domaine’s traditional élevage allowing the vineyard’s spice-laden complexity, mineral tension, and remarkable aging potential to unfold over decades.

Burghound
“While the nose is now fully tertiary as it's largely dominated by sous bois, there is still plenty of that lovely Asian spice and dried rose petal character that introduces medium weight and beautifully complex middle weight flavors that offer fine depth and length. While this is by no means a great example, it is as good a 1981 as I've had in a long time and one that is drinking perfectly.” (01/2012)

“The 1981 La Tâche Grand Cru is a vintage I have not met before, and this fine example was poured en magnum. It has an endearing bouquet with wonderful delineation: mineral-rich red fruit, iris flower, and just a scintilla of dark chocolate coming through with time. The palate is finely balanced with the weight and depth you expect from this Grand Cru. Secondary notes abound with sous-bois and white pepper. (NM)” (11/2023)
