The 2017 Syrah is the most reticent of the wines in this range from Ovid. Still very primary, the 2017 will benefit from time in bottle to come together and fully assimilate its oak. The aromatics and fruit start to emerge with time in the glass, but like all of these wines, the Syrah is on the lighter end of the spectrum for Ovid. (AG)

Notes

Robert Parker for Wine Advocate: "The wines of Ovid have been extraordinary since I first tasted them. This is not a big property, just a mere 15 acres, high on Pritchard Hill. Winemaker Austin Peterson gets consulting help from Andy Erickson, and my recollection is that Michel Rolland also provided assistance at some point. Viticulturalist to the superstars, David Abreu, manages the vineyard. Everything they do is fermented in concrete tanks except for the Syrah, and the wines typically spend just under two years in mostly new oak and are bottled with minimal, if any, clarification. All of these wines obviously display great fragrance, purity and incredible equilibrium/balance." (12/2015)
