Reviewed June 2025The 2021 Apollo is impossible to ignore, wafting up with a hauntingly dark mix of mentholated blackberries, rosemary and ashen stone. Juicy upon entry, it quickly gains saturating tension as tart wild berry fruits drench the palate in primary concentration. Tactile mineral tones linger with silky tannins as this finishes long, with a note of blackcurrant that fades slowly.

Based on 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Petite Sirah, aged 22 months in 300-liter French oak barrels (45% new), the 2021 Apollo shows darker currants, cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and sappy herb and floral notes. Medium to full-bodied, it has tons of sweet fruit, a ripe yet balanced, elegant mouthfeel, and a great finish.

Opaque in the glass, this blend of Cab with 28% Petite Sirah sports heavy aromas of cassis and cocoa that are rich but quite polished. The palate is thick but not overly viscous, offering bold flavors of currant and caramel.

Apollo is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend with a smaller portion of Petite Sirah. Brian consulted with legendary Napa Valley winemaker Tony Biagi of Hourglass, PlumpJack, CADE, To Kalon Wine Co., Amici, Odette, and others to help hone his Cabernet Sauvignon skills after focusing primarily on Rhône varieties. It seems to have done the trick, as this Cabernet-based blend is stunning. Very lifted, with lavender, crushed cassis, blackberry, hints of green tobacco leaf, crushed-rock minerality, and sexy oak spice around the edges. A bold but beautifully polished wine. STUNNING value at this ludicrous price.
