Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s Corton-Charlemagne sits among the domaine’s most sought-after white Burgundy bottlings, drawn from the grand cru hill of Corton in the Côte de Beaune. Colin-Morey is known for precise cellar work with Chardonnay, including larger-format barrels and a measured approach to new oak and bâtonnage.

Professional Reviews

Decanter

Combining grapes from two parcels, one in Pernand-Vergelesses and the other in Aloxe-Corton, this is a superb 65/35 blend that marries two very different terroirs. The 40% new wood needs a little more time to integrate, but this is a racy, subtle, intense Corton-Charlemagne with the precision and focus that you expect from a Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey white. Jasper Morris

Two thirds En Charlemagne, one third Languettes, high up in Aloxe. Purchased grapes but they do much of the vineyard work. Pale fresh colour. Lively nose, racy, no especial depth. Starts quietly, but there is a burst of concentration at the back. Interesting aftertaste with a touch of liquorice. (10/2019)

Wine Spectator

Well-marked by toasty, smoky oak, this white also delivers concentrated peach, pear and lemon notes, backed by a vibrant structure. The oak is intrusive now, so decant or give this a few more years of bottle age. *Collectible* (BS) (09/2021)

Burghound

A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. Wine Advocate

A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. (WK) (01/2021)

Jancis Robinson

Barrel sample. Smoky and quite subtle on the nose but the oak gives that creamy/mealy lees invitation. Really tightly wound but with amazing power. Not as open as the Perrières but the centre of gravity is perfect. Powerful and elegant. Pierces your heart. 19/20 points (JH) (11/2019)
