Wine Advocate
“The demure nose of the 2001 Riesling Spatlese Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr offers delicate floral, mineral, and sweet citrus scents. On the palate, it bursts forth with candied lemons, awesome clarity of flavors, and a noble minerality. Light to medium-bodied and satin-textured, this is a penetrating wine with extraordinary detail and elegance. Additionally, its ethereal core of fruit lingers for over a minute in its focused, highly expressive finish. (PR)” (12/2002)

“Deep lustrous gold. Still quite tight aromatically with hints of lime marmalade underneath. Very fine acidity all but disguises the residual fruitiness. Still lightly chewy. This has years left in it. I'm going to decant it. Crystalline and pure. 17+/20 points (JR)” (09/2019)

“Yeast, baked apple and cinnamon aromas. Rich yet delicate, this shows less overt sweetness than the Juffer-Sonnenuhr Kabinett. It is unusual for a Mosel riesling with dominant baked fruit and brown spice flavors to retain such a sense of clarity and delicacy, and as fine and subtle an edge of citricity as this one does. The luscious finish adds a lovely note of almond paste and a mysterious muskiness to the apple and spice. Perfectly proportional and poised. *2 stars* (DS)” (11/2002)
