“One of the absolute highlights in this portfolio of utterly amazing wines, the 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Asili possesses marvelous depth and richness, but also little of the early approachability and sexiness of Asili. With time in the glass, the wine’s inner perfume gradually emerges, but ultimately this is a Barbaresco to bury in the deepest corner of the cellar. Once again, the Produttori have done a fabulous job with the Asili. The 2008 has nerves of steel and a huge, never-ending finish. Rich, round and fat with concentrated fruit, but given a light touch by harmonious acidity. A real fruit bomb, with complicating nuances of spices and herbs. The rising finish features very fine-grained tannins that arrive late and explosive juicy freshness. Has the firm spine and reserve to support a long and graceful evolution in bottle. It’s soft and floral in the middle, where umami and sweet flavors meet, then bristles with power in the end, a tight, controlled force field of flavor.
