2012 Domaine Faiveley Echézeaux & Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2-Bottle Horizontal Tasting Lot

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2012 Domaine Faiveley Echézeaux Grand Cru ((91-94ST), (91-93BH)) and 1-bottle of 2012 Domaine Faiveley Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru ((92-95BH), (92-95ST)). Of the 2012 Domaine Faiveley Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, Burghound writes: "A pure and manifestly earthy and sauvage nose offers up notes of red and dark currant, humus and underbrush. There is excellent volume and mid-palate density to the beautifully delineated medium weight plus flavors that possess terrific focus and plenty of minerality on the strikingly long finish. As is usually the case this is markedly austere at present and will need plenty of cellar time before it's ready for prime time but it should be well worth the wait. *Don't Miss!* " (01/2014)

This comes from one of my favorite sites in Echezeaux, Combe d'Orveau. It is across the Combe from Musigny, and is prone to fine and elegant wine, with red fruited notes. This is silky and delightful. (Keiht Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer, 02/2014)

(from a warm southern exposure in the lieu-dit Combe d'Orveaux; aging in two-thirds new oak): Medium red. Aromas of red cherry, cinnamon and earth. Silky, suave and sweet, with a slightly candied quality to the cherry, spice and mint flavors. Savory, stylish Echezeaux with a long, saline, soil-driven finish. This very ripe wine will nonetheless require four or five years of cellaring to absorb some of its tannins. (01/2014)

This is also exuberantly fresh if quite restrained with a lovely spice character to the primarily red currant suffused nose. I very much like the complexity of the seductively textured medium weight flavors that brim with dry extract on the racy, intense and balanced finish. This refined effort will also need at least a decade before it will be able to realize its considerable potential (01/2014)

Good bright, dark red. Complex, high-pitched aromas of pomegranate, nutmeg, orange peel, licorice and pepper. Nuanced and stylish but youthfully tight, showing outstanding definition and lift its tart red berry and stone flavors. Finishes long and brisk, with outstanding energy. This should enjoy a long and graceful evolution in bottle; my range may eventually turn out to be conservative. (ST) (01/2014)
