More serious and concentrated than most, Goisot's Les Mazelots boasts abundant mulberry and pomegranate aromas with hints of truffle and earth. The wine is tannic and firm, concentrated but not heavy. The vines are planted in a band of grey Kimmeridgian that delivers prominent minerality; a third of the vines are 80-110 years of age (the oldest in the appellation); a third are 40-80 years old and the rest are young vines. The combination is spectacular. 100% Pinot Noir.(CC)

Note: 100% pinot. A cooler and slightly more elegant offers a bit more layering on the mix of red and dark pinot fruit and distinct warm earth nuances. The delicious and racy middle weight flavors are not quite as concentrated though they deliver fine length on the lingering and mildly rustic finale. This too should develop well over time.

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "All pinot on Kimmerigian – not much clay – quite a white soil. ‘We had some great vintages of césar, but the wine was exactly the same 10 years later – it doesn’t develop, it’s like a fossil, but I’ve kept 3 vines for the memory – so this is all pinot! Here’s a more composed, even shy nose – but of red fruited width. Concentrated flavours but there’s no fat here. A juicy style that’s full of flavour – no make-up just a depth and intensity of pure pinot/Irancy flavours. That finish clean and, once more, with a hint of dark graphite. That’s just a great wine – and probably will be for 20+ years…"(01/2026)
