The 2022 Barolo Ravera pours a bright medium red color and was bottled the same day as the Coste di Rose. The nose shows more depth and takes time to open, revealing notes of fresh cherries, graphite, and iron. On the palate, it has broader shoulders and firmer tannins, with greater mineral depth and richness. Drink 2026-2046. (AF) 96+

Tea, hibiscus, orange rind, sandalwood and dried flowers. Really aromatic and absorbing. Medium-bodied, with a transparent, ethereal sense of fruit and a backbone of tannins that gives definition all the way to the end. Unique balance, from the famed vineyard in Novello. Better from 2029. (JGA)

The G.D. Vajra 2022 Ravera this is another impressive effort for the family's 2022 Barolos. It opens with aromas recalling grilled herb, new leather, camphor and forest floor that on the full-bodied palate transform into dried cherry, raspberry tart, bitter orange and licorice. Notes of dried sage and thyme linger on the finish alongside firm, close-grained tannins that jump in and leave a good grip. (KO)

The 2022 Barolo Ravera is a powerful, tannic young wine. Dried cherry, chalk, mint, white pepper and dried herbs infuse the 2022 with tons of mineral and savory energy. This svelte, linear Barolo is a bruiser today. It will be interesting to see if the mid-palate fills out. At this stage, the 2022 is a touch compact and very tightly wound, but it is also nicely balanced for the vintage. (AG)

Hailing from the Novello commune, this cru showcases the more muscular side of the estate. It is intensely structured and deeply savory, driven by dark iron minerality, wild herbs, and a powerful core built for the cellar.

Notes

The 2022 G.D. Vajra "Ravera" Barolo is an exceptionally chiseled, highly academic expression of this benchmark Novello cru. In a structurally demanding and dry vintage, the Vajra family’s parcels—rooted in the complex, iron-rich tortoiseshell marls and sandstones of Ravera—demonstrated why this high-altitude, breezy site has become an invaluable asset in the face of shifting climates. To preserve the wine’s raw, nervous tension, the family reduced the extraction slightly and dialled back the wood aging, allowing the vineyard's cool alpine personality to claim center stage. In the glass, it pours a bright, completely translucent medium-red. The nose is incredibly high-toned, intellectual, and slow to yield, requiring patience before unleashing a precise aromatic beam of fresh sour cherries, graphite, and blood orange rind. This primary fruit is tightly woven into classic Ravera markers: dried hibiscus flowers, white pepper, camphor, and a stark, highly savory layer of crushed stone and iron dust.
