The 2010 Les Cailles is simply magical! The hauntingly pure and sappy nose soars from the glass in a blaze of red and black cherries, blood orange, raw cocoa, gamebirds, incipient notes of black truffle, glorious soil tones, woodsmoke and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and strikingly pure on the attack, with great soil signature, a sappy core of fruit, fine-grained tannins and stunning length and grip on the tangy and seamless finish. Good fresh dark red. Complex, soil-driven aromas and flavors of cassis, blackberry and smoky minerality. Rich, broad and dense; really spreads out horizontally to cover the palate. Wonderfully nuanced, layered wine with no hard edges. Ripe tannins saturate the mouth on the unflagging finish. This should be explosive with several years of bottle aging.

A spicy, cool, pure and wonderfully airy nose of purple and dark berry fruit gives way to rich, dense and seductively textured flavors that brim with dry extract that buffers the otherwise firm tannins on the mineral-inflected, long and classy finish. This is a focused and intense wine of style and grace that should amply reward long-term cellaring. In short, this is flat out wonderful. *Outstanding*
