Smoked bacon, Asian spices, and black cherries are found in the mouth-watering aromatics of the 2002 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Cailles. Awesomely expansive, armed with terrific mouth-feel, it slathers the taster’s palate with cassis liqueur, bacon, and blackberries. This velvety-textured wine is pure, concentrated, and boasts a prolonged finish. (PR)

As it usually does, the Les Cailles offers the spiciest nose of the entire range with earthy black fruit aromas of spectacular complexity leading to deep, rich, incredibly textured and perfumed flavors that possess very firm tannins yet the impression here is of almost unsurpassed elegance and the length is easily of grand cru quality. This is really an amazing wine and a wine of real contrast of it's at once fine yet powerful, rich yet detailed and earthy yet elegant. A flat out great Les Cailles of reference standard quality. *Outstanding*

Healthy bright red. Deep, smoky red fruits and a whiff of truffle on the nose and palate. Plump, rich and deep, conveying an utterly seamless texture and terrific volume for Nuits-Saint-Georges. Perfectly accessible right now owing to its supple tannins and total lack of rough edges but this very long wine is still young. "Try the Cailles with cailles [quail]," suggests Bertrand Chevillon. (the last '02 to be bottled, in May of 2004) Good bright ruby-red. Liqueur-like aromas of dark berries, violet and sexy oak. Sweet but firm, with slightly idiosyncratic flavors of exotic flowers and minerals. This has energy and grip that I don't find in the 2003. Finishes firmly tannic and youthfully closed. Should reward a decade of patience.
