2004 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée

Bid on this bottle of 2004 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée (94JM, 92BH, 91VN). Jasper Morris: "The blend here is made up of village Genaivrières, 1er cru Brûlées and Beaumonts and the grands crus Richebourg and Romanée-St-Vivant. This Vosne combines the aromatics of the Chambolle (flowers, alpine strawberries) with the structure of the Gevrey, then adds a further dimension of intensity on the palate, and indeed a greater sense of precision. This really does show pedigree as well as persistence. Alpine strawberries plus fully ripe raspberries abound on the palate, though with some firmer, les ripe elements to the structure in the background. NB stars have been awarded in the light of expectations from the blend, rather than according to the official appellation on the label. " (05/2019)

Burghound

This is a wine that I have had on any number of occasions and it would be fair to observe that there is a tremendous amount of bottle variation. While most bottles in my experience display some noticeable levels of reduction (even occasionally mercaptans), when it doesn't extend to the palate this can be a really impressive wine with outstanding depth and persistence. My score is a bit of a compromise as the reduction is enough to materially detract from the overall experience yet the mouth feel and sheer complexity are first-rate. For my taste this is drinking very well now and I would advise giving this at least a quick aeration and 20 to 30 minutes would be better. (10/2018)

Vinous

More fruity on the nose than the NSG, with complicating elements of smoke and musky game. This offers a lovely silky texture and compelling sweetness and stuffing for the vintage, with smoke and underbrush adding complexity to the wine's fruit. This has excellent material and finishes with suave tannins. (ST) (04/2007)
