Review Date: 02/2025

From a 0.25-hectare plot on the almost north-facing Brand hill, the 2023 Turckheim Riesling Schneid is replacing the Village Riesling—I reviewed the 2021 vintage of that wine earlier in 2024. It opens with ripe, intense and concentrated fruit on the nose and is a mouth-filling, dense, elegant and juicy dry Riesling with power, length and intensity. Racked straight from the press into barrels, the wine was kept on the full lees until July and was bottled in August without stabilization, fining or filtering, but it will be released only after another year in the bottle, in September 2025. Tasted from the barrel in April 2024. (SR)

Notes

Better known for grower Champagne in Avize, La Rogerie also has a direct Alsace connection through François Petit-Boxler’s family roots near Turckheim. “Schneid” refers to the named Turckheim site for this Riesling, placing the wine in one of the historic villages of the Haut-Rhin just west of Colmar.
