Old vines populate Star Vineyard in Rutherford. The soil is composed of gravel and sandy loam that creates what early California winemaker André Tchelistcheff labeled the "Dust Effect". This creates a soft, cocoa-like tannins that influence Collateral's smooth, powerful Malbec.
