“(13.6% alcohol; 45% new oak): Dark ruby color. Black cherry, cassis, licorice and a touch of minerals on the nose, along with more smoky, spicy oak than in most recent years; there's something here that reminded me of an old-style Bordeaux. Broad, fine-grained and sweet, conveying a stronger impression of ripeness than the Reynvaan 2015 Syrahs from The Rocks. This very full, pliant wine offers a restrained sweetness and finishes with very good slowly mounting notes of chocolate and espresso. This bottling actually communicates a stronger impression of ripeness than some of the 2014 Syrahs, with a note of licorice pastille lingering. (ST)” (10/2017)
