2010, 2013, 2019 Captûre, Orin Swift & Boeschen — California Red Blend Tasting Lot
Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2010 Captûre "Harmonie" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend (95RP, 94WE, 91VN), 1-bottle of 2013 Orin Swift "Machete" Red Blend (93WS), and 1-bottle of 2019 Boeschen Vineyards "Carrera Estate" St. Helena Bordeaux Blend (93JD, 92RP, 92TWI, 91DC). Of the 2010 Captûre "Harmonie" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend, Wine Advocate writes: "The 2010 Proprietary Red Harmonie, also from Pine Mountain, exhibits a complex, Bordeaux-like nose reminiscent of a St.-Julien or Pauillac. Cedarwood, black currant, chocolate and macerated black cherry notes emerge from this dark ruby/purple-colored 2010. It cuts a slightly richer, broader palate feel than the Alliance, but it possesses similar elegance, complexity and richness. Nothing is out of place in this complex, singular, provocative wine. (RP)" (12/2013)

Captûre wines are devoted to showcasing the rugged terroir of the Mayacamas Mountains. Captûre's wines are sourced from the estate vineyard some 3000ft in Cloverdale Peak, along with other top vineyards in Knights Valley and Alexander Valley. These vineyards all share the same rocky volcanic soils of the Mayacamas and produce wines of both struture and elegance. This wine was made by the late, great, Denis Malbec, and even today Captûre continues to fashion wines from traditional Bordeaux varietals to showcase this spectacular terroir. “Capture continues to make progress in interpreting their vineyard located in this new appellation, a high elevation overlooking Alexander Valley. Based on Cabernet Sauvignon, this Bordeaux-style blend is young now, with hard tannins that interfere with the fruit. The fruit is intensely concentrated with cherry compote and cassis flavors, while new oak's vanilla and toast are proportionate to the wine's volume. *Cellar Selection, Best of Year 2013*” (07/2013)

“Good deep red-ruby. Captivating aromas of plum, kirsch, tobacco, pepper and cinnamon reminded me a bit of a Pomerol. Then quite dry and austere on the palate, in a distinctly Old World style. The musky flavors of plum, spices and dusty minerals are lifted by a lavender nuance. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that will require patience. Already shows a tangy quality but this is very shut down today. Capture's estate vineyard is located at an altitude of nearly 2,500 feet, in Alexander Valley. All three of its red wines were from fruit harvested on November 2, 4 and 9 in 2010. (ST) 91+” (05/2013)

The 2013 Machete is a blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Grenache. The bottles are adorned with any one of twelve different "sassy, 1970s-inspired" labels. From the winemaker: "An opaque, purple chroma is brilliantly on display in the glass. An alluring fragrance of bright floral notes, violet juxtaposed with intriguing mountain characteristics. The entry is big, dark, and brooding with concentrated berry flavors, black cherry, mocha, and delightful earthy, brambly notes. Soft and lush, the tannins are sublime which offsets a pleasing mineral finish."

“The 2019 Red Blend Carrera checks in as 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest mostly Merlot, with tiny amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It has a Château Figeac-like style in its red and black fruits as well as white truffle, saddle leather, and tobacco-laced aromas and flavors. It’s beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, and a great value. I actually like the overall balance here better than in the St. Helena release.” (05/2022)

Wine Advocate
“A blend of 83% Cabernet, 15% Merlot, 1.5% Cab Franc and 0.5% Petit Verdot, Boeschen's 2019 Carrera Red Wine is neither as sleek as a sports car nor solid like marble, but it is an attractive, easy-drinking effort. Sweetly ripe red cherries are accented by hints of cedar and brown sugar on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is supple and charming, ending with gentle, silky tannins and ample length. The Wine Independent
“The 2019 Carrera Red is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 1.5% Cabernet Franc, and 0.5% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it starts off with a quiet intensity of dried herbs, damp soil, and charcoal, giving way to a powerful core of warm cassis and baked plums. Medium to full-bodied, it is lively and chewy, with a good amount of energetic fruit and a lifted finish. (LPB)” (06/2022)

“Intense aromas of smoked meat, fragrant dried rose petals and leather. All black-fruit driven, with currants, cassis, liquorice, dried herbs, coffee, vanilla and roasted meats. Spiced oak notes round out the finish. A heady and contemplative red. (JC)” (06/2022)
