Gemstone Winery traces its origins to 1992, when founders Suzie and Paul Frank purchased a 16-acre estate on a west-facing slope in Yountville along the Silverado Trail. Their inaugural vintage debuted in 1997, built from meticulously farmed micro-blocks planted to multiple Cabernet Sauvignon clones, plus Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Chardonnay. The vineyard’s gravelly alluvial soils over sandstone bedrock create naturally low vigor, allowing each of the 20 micro-blocks to be harvested and fermented separately for precision and complexity. In 2008, Carole and Michael Marks acquired the estate, continuing its small-production focus—typically under 2,000 cases—and working with top winemakers to craft deeply structured, terroir-driven Napa Valley wines.
