Myriad Cellars was founded by Mike Smith, who released his first vintage in 2005 after training under Thomas Brown. The winery focuses on small-lot, hands-on production, sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Sémillon from top Napa sites such as Beckstoffer Dr. Crane, To Kalon, and Georges III. Smith personally manages all cellar work, using limited-production French oak and minimal intervention to highlight site character. Production remains very small, with fruit drawn from multiple Napa appellations including St. Helena, Oakville, Rutherford, and Calistoga. Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard is located in the cooler southeastern corner of Napa Valley, a site known for Syrah with high natural acidity and slower ripening. Made with 100% whole clusters, this Syrah was fermented with intact stems, a technique that increases structure, aromatic lift, and tannin.
