2018 Domaine Pinson Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos" (1.5L)

Decanter
Review Date: 07/2019One of the wines of the vintage in 2018, this stunning white comes from four parcels within Chablis' most celebrated Grand Cru and is a very complete, self-assured expression of the terroir. Deftly oaked, with 20% new wood and the rest fermented and aged in stainless steel, it's a rich, saline, focused Chardonnay with jasmine and white pepper aromas, pithy, palate-cleansing acidity and layers of citrus, tangerine and aromatic spices. If only all 2018s were as refreshing and well balanced! Drinking Window 2020 - 2030. (TA)

Notes
92-95, points Jasper Morris in Inside Burgundy: "20% of the cuvée undergoes new barrel fermentation, the rest in tank and then blended to older barrel from January 2019 for 13 months in total. So the wood is clearly present but does not distract. There is great intensity, some toast for sure, which makes the finish a bit abrupt when tasted this early. The same tasted from an older barrel, offering a less aggressive nose with more white fruit, much more nuanced with good grip, maybe some wood tannins. Very long here, and super acidity." 92 points Neal Martin in Vinous: "The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru comes from 2.5ha of 45-year-old vines and is matured for 12 months in barrel. It has a more floral bouquet than the Montmains, pressed white flowers mingling with lemon zest and light chalk dust aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a slightly honeyed opening, counterbalanced by a fine thread of acidity and subtle tropical notes toward the finish. Everything here remains nicely controlled and there is reassuring persistence. Excellent." (9/2020)
