2004 Bodegas Muga "Torre Muga" Reserva Rioja
Notes
Muga believes that their Torre Muga should be a struggle between oak and fruit, with the fruit, of course, prevailing. For the 2009 vintage, this is exactly how I would describe this wine. It is all big, brawny, spicy black cherry fruit, squarely framed by some oak, but with the fruit prevailing. The wine consists of Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano from a 62 year old vineyard in the Rioja Alta village of Villalba. The combination of this Torre Muga, far and away the best I've had to date, with Riedel Vinum Bordeaux XL glasses, would make a very fine gift indeed. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)
