2011 Galardi "Terra di Lavoro" Roccamonfina (1.5L)
97
James Suckling
Review Date: 02/2014Complex aromas of blackberry, stones, cracked black pepper and tar. Full body with soft, round tannins and a juicy, fruity finish. Soulful and refined from this estate. This is a magical wine from Southern Italy.

Notes
Roccamonfina IGT is one of several IGT wine appellations of Campania in southern Italy. The name refers to the ancient Roccamonfina volcano, the focal point of the appellation's catchment area. In addition to the village of Roccamonfina, which is perched on the volcano's south-eastern slopes, 24 other communes can claim the Roccamonfina IGT title. As is the norm for Campania's IGTs, wines made under the Roccamonfina name focus strongly on the traditional and well-established Campanian grape varieties. Red wines are predominantly Aglianico, Piedirosso and Sciascinoso (aka Olivella), with the occasional appearance from Primitivo.
