1995 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
90
Wine Spectator
Review Date: 08/1998A dense, well-oaked style, with plenty of anise, currant, chocolate, cedar and berry flavors to sustain it. Turns complex and supple on the finish. (JL)

The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is a beautifully made wine that comes close to being outstanding. It boasts a textbook cassis and eucalyptus-scented nose with oak in the background. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with excellent ripeness, clean fruit, and a long, spicy finish. It avoids some of the vintage's hard tannins. Mondavi is adding a number of new regionally labeled Cabernet Sauvignons to their portfolio. In addition to their Oakville cuvee, they have a Stags Leap District Cabernet, and a single vineyard wine from their famed To-Kalon plantation. (RP)
Notes
Founded in Oakville in 1966, Robert Mondavi helped define the modern Napa Valley Cabernet category. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon bottling sits below the Reserve tier and typically draws from estate and grower vineyards across the valley, with oak aging in the classic Mondavi style.
