1999 Gundlach Bundschu "Rhinefarm Vineyard" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Notes
Gundlach Bundschu, Sonoma Valley’s old guard, dates to 1858 when German immigrant Jacob Gundlach planted vines on Rhinefarm, a site still farmed by the same family six generations later. After Prohibition and a postwar lull, the modern chapter took shape in the 1970s under Jim Bundschu, who helped reestablish estate bottling and a focus on site expression. Today, the vineyard spans the western Sonoma Valley foothills, planted to Rhône, Bordeaux, and Burgundian varieties grown under sustainable farming. Expect polished but not overworked wines, Cabernet from warmer blocks, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from cooler exposures.
