2005 Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino

Wine Advocate
Review Date: 04/2010The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino flows with a vibrant core of perfumed red cherries, spices, tobacco and earthiness. Medium in body, the wine reveals outstanding length and a polished, refined finish. The bouquet is not as clean or focused as is usually the case, and the wine will benefit greatly from being opened an hour or two in advance. (AG)

Notes
From one of Montalcino's historic estates, this Brunello is made from Sangiovese grown around Sant'Angelo in Colle on the southern side of the appellation. Col d'Orcia has long favored a traditional élevage, with extended aging in large oak casks rather than a heavily barrique-driven style.
