The 2016 Cabreo Il Borgo brings together all the elements of the Folonari style nicely. Mocha, black cherry, espresso, licorice and sweet oak all meld together in an attractive, supple Tuscan red that will drink well with minimal cellaring. In 2016, Cabreo is more refined and nuanced than I remember seeing in the past. Sweet floral notes add lift through to the silky finish. (AG)

From the estates of Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari, the Tenute del Cabreo 2016 Il Borgo is a 70-30 blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a balanced, smooth and full-bodied Tuscan red that shows good harmony between its dark fruit and dark spice. The wine is impeccably made, that's for sure, with a careful eye on the aromatic intensity and the management of its tannins. Indeed, the wine is almost sweet in the mouth with lots of dark cherry and blackberry confit. The style is sweet, accessible and international. This one calls for a seared steak with a thick sea salt rub. (ML)
