Of the 2013 Domaine le Sang des Cailloux "Cuvée Lopy" Vacqueyras , Vinous writes: "(fermented in concrete tanks and raised in old foudres): Opaque ruby. Smoke-accented cherry and dark berry preserve aromas show very good clarity, while suggestions of licorice and lavender add complexity. Plush and creamy in texture, offering gently sweet boysenberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors and an energizing hint of cracked pepper. Le Sang des Cailloux is a respected estate in Vacqueyras, founded by Serge Férigoule and now run by his son Frédéri. The vineyards are farmed organically on stony, clay-limestone soils, where the region’s warm Mediterranean climate and the influence of the Mistral wind help maintain balance and freshness in the fruit. Known for traditional blends dominated by Grenache, the estate produces wines that clearly express the power and rustic elegance of this southern Rhône terroir.
