2016 Pavie, St-Emilion (wine-stained & nicked label)

The Wine Independent
Review Date: 12/2023Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Pavie comes barreling out with bold notes of plum preserves, juicy blueberries, and Morello cherries followed by hints of Indian spices, dark chocolate, dusty soil, and iron ore. The full-bodied palate is jam packed with youthful black fruit preserves and spicy sparks, framed by firm, velvety tannins and amazing tension, finishing long and perfumed. This is still so young, it has hardly budged since bottling. Give it a good 6 years in bottle and drink over the next 50 years+. (LPB)

Notes
96+ points, Neal Martin - Vinous: "The 2016 Pavie is powerful and rich on the nose, and more decadent than the 2016 Angélus, featuring iodine-tinged blackberry and blueberry fruit and noticeable new oak, all lavish and sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, and fleshy to the point where it masks the backbone underneath. It feels hedonistic on the finish but retains control with a wonderful spiciness that lingers on the aftertaste. Superb." (08/2020)
