Maverick grower Al Brounstein first established Diamond Creek on the secluded Diamond Mountain in 1968. Devoted entirely to Bordeaux varietals, Diamond Creek has established itself as a source for fine fruit and, in turn, fine wine. The 3/4-acre Lake Vineyard is the winery's coolest vineyard site, benefitting from the Pacific breezes that roll aross the Russian River corridor. The fruit here requires longer hang time than other sites, if the grapes ripen at all. For this reason, the Diamond Creek "Lake" is only made after the warmest vintages when the weather produces the right combination of temperatures to ripen this rarely seen wine.
