1987 Domaine Durroux 38 Year Old "K&L Exclusive" Single Barrel No.63 Mauléon-d’Armagnac Bas-Armagnac (700ml)
Notes
Armagnac remains one of the last great regions where true hidden treasures still exist, and few illustrate that better than the remarkable Domaine Durroux. Nestled in the heart of Gascony, the world’s oldest and most storied brandy-producing region, this small estate has been quietly distilling and aging its own Armagnac for decades. Located in the excellent village of Mauleon-d’Armagnac, the Domaine is tended by the modest and devoted Jean-Marc Durroux, who for most of his life sold only to neighbors and local trade. Today, after years of quiet dedication, his remarkable collection is finally reaching a wider audience, offering us the privilege of tasting Armagnac shaped by pure tradition and patience. The Domaine cultivates Baco 22A as the backbone of its production, complemented by Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Folle Blanche, each contributing texture and complexity. Jean-Marc learned his craft in the vineyards and alongside the itinerant distillers who once roamed the region, becoming master distiller at the age of twenty. After each harvest, natural fermentation and distillation on traditional alembic column stills yield a pure, aromatic eau-de-vie that is filled exclusively into locally grown pedunculated Gascon oak and aged slowly in the cool, dark chai of the estate. This singular cask was bottled without reduction or chill-filtration at full natural strength, exclusively for K&L Wine Merchants in California.
